1. Chest Pain or Pressure
Any chest pain, pressure, tightness, or squeezing that lasts more than a few minutes needs immediate medical attention.
2. Shortness of Breath
Difficulty breathing during normal activities or while resting can indicate heart failure or coronary artery disease.
3. Irregular Heartbeat
Feeling your heart flutter, race, or skip beats occasionally may indicate arrhythmia which increases stroke risk.
4. Swollen Legs or Ankles
When the heart cannot pump efficiently, fluid accumulates in the legs and ankles. This is called edema.
5. Extreme Fatigue
Unusual exhaustion during normal activities can be an early sign of heart disease, especially in women.
6. Dizziness or Fainting
Sudden dizziness or fainting can indicate a drop in blood pressure or a serious heart rhythm problem.
7. Persistent Cough
A chronic cough that produces white or pink mucus can indicate fluid buildup in the lungs from heart failure.
