Your Child's Pediatric Checkup Schedule: What Parents Need to Know

Why Regular Checkups Matter

Pediatric checkups allow doctors to monitor growth, detect developmental delays early, and keep vaccinations up to date.

Checkup Schedule by Age

Newborn to 1 Year

Checkups at 1 week, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months. Vaccines are given at most of these visits.

Age 1 to 3 Years

Checkups at 15 months, 18 months, 24 months, and 30 months. This period is critical for language and motor development monitoring.

Age 3 to 6 Years

Annual checkups. Vision and hearing tests begin at age 3. School readiness is assessed at age 5.

Age 6 to 12 Years

Annual checkups focusing on school performance, mental health, BMI monitoring, and puberty preparation.

What Happens at a Checkup

Weight, height, and head circumference measurement, developmental milestone assessment, vision and hearing screening, vaccination updates, and parent education.

When to See a Doctor Between Checkups

High fever above 39C, difficulty breathing, severe vomiting or diarrhea, unusual rash, or behavioral changes warrant immediate attention.
