1. Common Cold
Runny nose, sneezing, mild fever, and cough. Usually lasts 7 to 10 days. Rest, fluids, and saline drops help. See a doctor if fever exceeds 39C or symptoms worsen after day 5.
2. Ear Infections
Ear pain, tugging at the ear, difficulty sleeping, and fever. Very common in children under 5. Most resolve without antibiotics but see a pediatrician to confirm.
3. Gastroenteritis (Stomach Flu)
Vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and low fever. Focus on hydration with small frequent sips of water or oral rehydration solution.
4. Chickenpox
Itchy red spots that blister and crust over. Highly contagious. Keep your child home and trim their nails to prevent scratching and infection.
5. Hand Foot and Mouth Disease
Sores in the mouth and rash on hands and feet. Common in children under 5. No specific treatment but it resolves in 7 to 10 days.
6. Strep Throat
Severe throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, and swollen glands without cough. Requires antibiotic treatment to prevent complications.
When to Go to Emergency
Difficulty breathing, blue lips, severe dehydration, seizures, or a rash that does not fade when pressed requires immediate emergency care.
